The 17th annual edition of Delhi International Leather Fair (DILF), October 23-25, 2009 organized by India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) concluded with a successful note. The fair was organized with the active support of Council for Leather Exports, Central Leather Research Institute and Footwear Design and Development Institute. Other associations related to Leather Industry also supported it.

DILF 2009 was inaugurated by Shri Tejendra Khanna, Lt. Governor of Govt. of NCT of Delhi, on October 23, 2009 at 10 am. Dr.Subas Chandra Pani, Chairman and Managing Director, ITPO, Shri Rajiv Yadav, Executive Director, ITPO, Shri Habib Hussain, Chairman, Council for Leather Exports, Dr. A B Mandal, Director Central Leather Research Institute, Shri Ali Ahmed Khan, Executive Director, Council for Leather Exports, were present on the occasion.

DILF-09 was organized with focus on finished leather products. About 80% of participants were displaying finished leather products including footwear, such as leather garments, leather Goods - wallets, belts, gloves, leather bags, saddlery and harness. There were a small number of companies displaying Footwear Components, machinery and equipment & publications in the fair who provide support to the leather industry.

The fair covered a net area of 1800 sqm attracting participation from 102 companies including 7 from 4 overseas countries – China, Italy, Taiwan, Thailand.

A theme pavilion titled “IMAGINATION” had been set up jointly by ITPO and Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) focusing on the Autumn Winter 2010/11 season.

A number of events were also held concurrent to the fair which included Seminars on topics of interest to the industry, a fashion show depicting the latest collections of leather and leather products.

DILF 2009 received good respose from business visitors/buyers. Over 1750 trade visitors and buyers including those from overseas visited the event. On the invitation of ITPO and Council for Leather Exports (CLE) a number of buyers from Bangladesh, Belarus, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Chile, Egypt, Ethiopia, Germany, Iran, Italy, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, UK & Uruguay visited the fair.

The fair provided an ideal platform for exhibitors and visiting business persons to interact and finalise business deals. As per feed back, the majority of the participants were happy about the outcome and they have informed that they would participate in the next edition.
