An exclusive retrospective of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s films from May 18 to 24,2012 will be the first screening at Shakuntalam theatre after the decision of India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) to stop regular screening of commercial cinema at the theatre to make way for hosting business conferences and seminars and to use it only for special screening of select films including regional films from time to time when the facility is not wanted for business events.
Organised by ITPO in collaboration with Directorate of Film Festivals of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the films will be screened at 6 pm daily during the period.
Five films among those for which Dr. Hazarika had composed music will be screened at the festival. These are: Chameli Memsaab (Assamese)-1975 (Dir: Abdul Majid) on 18th May, Ek Pal (Dir: Kalpana Lajmi) (Hindi)-1986 on 19th and 24th May, Rudali (Hindi)-1983 (Dir: Kalpana Lajmi) on 20th and 23rd May, Aparoopa (Assamese)-1982 (Dir. Jahnu Barua) on 21th May, and Gandhi to Hitler (Hindi)-2011 (Dir. Rakesh Ranjan Kumar) on 22nd May.
Under ITPO plan for enlarging business related conference facilities at Pragati Maidan, Shakuntalam theatre is being converted to a business meeting facility. |
